Book Review – Man 2.0 Engineering The Alpha

By now you have probably heard of the book Man 2.0 Engineering The Alpha. One of the authors of the book is John Romaniello, one of the best and most popular fitness bloggers out there. I have been following him for a while and I immediately ordered this book after hearing about it.

What Is It About?

Man 2.0 Engineering The Alpha is advertised as a fitness and lifestyle book but the lifestyle part is a bit of a stretch. It emphasizes changing your life by using diet and fitness which I actually like. Speaking for myself I had my shit together back when I was fat but my life improved even more when I started taking my health seriously. When you improve and control every aspect of your life it really does change your overall mood in ways you can’t really imagine. With all that said this book isn’t really going to offer much along the lines of positive thinking or any other advice for improving your life.

Tyler Durden is a great example of the traditional alpha male, albeit a fucking crazy example!

The book starts out defining the traditional alpha male and addresses the negative aspects of the traditional alpha male. After they define the traits of the new alpha male and go on to list their rules for an alpha male. This is probably my favorite part of the book and something every person can benefit from reading. The book is all about creating the best version of yourself and I personally plan on adding some of these rules to my own life and there are a few traits that I plan on trying to develop.

Optimizing Your Hormones

The focus of the book is optimizing your hormones through a combination of diet and exercise. Most people that try to create their own diet and workout programs have absolutely no damn clue what they’re doing even though they think they do. For most guys they start eating nothing but salads and sandwiches ignoring their fat and carbohydrate intake. They end up feeling like shit thinking they’re in “starvation mode” when really they have just caused even more damage to their hormones than their previous crappy diet was causing. Your average man in his 20s and 30s has the hormonal make up of a guy 15 – 20 years older due to lack of physical activity and poor diet.

What really sets this book apart from the rest of the fitness books out there is it addresses hormonal balance along with a detailed diet and exercise program. Most books out there will either give you a detailed exercise program with basic diet advice or vice versa, but not Man 2.0! Also when I say detailed man do I mean detailed! They give you all the scientific research to support their claims. Later in the book they give you all the formulas to figure out your protein, fat, and carbohydrate intake along with food lists and sample meal plans. After you get the diet handled they give you the workout program with pictures of the exercises. This book really is the complete package!

Who Is It For?

If this is you on a daily basis you will benefit from following the plan in this book!

This book is great for any guy who is looking to improve his body and change how he feels on a daily basis. I remember many days sitting at work not only being unhappy with my body but also just feeling tired all the time. This book will help you transform your body and mood along with giving you detailed knowledge of how your body functions. If you’re already working out, eating healthy, and still wish you felt or looked a little better this book is also for you. I really feel this is the most complete fitness book I have ever seen and I have recommended it to a few of my guy friends.

Stuff I Think Rocks!

Now this is going to be a pretty basic but not only is this going to be about stuff I think rocks but also people that I think rock. This post will cover everything from fitness to lifestyle to technology. I have many different interests and I just want to share with you the stuff that I like. Feel free to share stuff you guys enjoy in the comments section.

Chuck Palahniuk

Probably my favorite movie of all time!

Most people don’t realize that the movie Fight Club is based on a book by this guy. Another great book of his that turned into a movie is Choke. My favorite book of his has to be Pygmy! He writes about crazy topics and Chuck himself definitely marches to the beat of a different drummer. Great author and someone I would love to meet.

On The Road by Jack Kerouac
A great book by one of the greatest writers of all time. It is the story of how he hitchhiked across the United States. It was published in 1957 so it is old. One of the things I know I love about it is reading about his time in Denver. I haven’t seen the movie but I heard it was crap even though it has a great cast.

Samsung Products running a Google OS

I love my Chromebook.

I own a Samsung Galaxy S3, Nexus 10 tablet, and a Chromebook. I love them all! I back up all my music, documents, pictures, and everything else all in the cloud with Google. I create all my blog posts and even presentations for work with Google. This actually leads to my next topic.

Cloud/Web Based Television
I haven’t had cable for a few years. I use Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu Plus all right through my blu ray player. My friend lets me use his HBOGO and Xfinity account also. I am 100% web based for my television and I love it. I watch things when I have the time and it costs me about $250 a year. My internet provider probably hates me.

Chiropractor
I go see a Chiropractor every four weeks to keep spine and body healthy. You would be surprised how much things move and how great you can feel by having everything put back into place.

Deep Tissue Massages
I have started getting deep tissue massages to help my muscles recover because I beat them up so much in the gym. It hurts light hell especially because left leg is messed up from a slight shift in my pelvis. Overall though I feel great afterwards but it sucks while I’m getting worked on!

Beastie Boys

I have always been a fan or theirs but I have been rocking out to their music a lot more lately. Rest in peace to the great Adam Yauch a member who recently passed away. One of the greatest musical groups of all time.

Boxer Briefs
Now that I’m in shape I love wearing them. I only own two pairs of boxers now the rest are boxer briefs.

Nicki Minaj

There is just something about her!

I love her! I have also been listening to her music a lot more too. I would do dirty, dirty, dirty things to her!

Almond Butter
I have been eating this by the jar lately. It has protein, fiber, healthy fats, and it taste amazing!

So these are some of the things and people that I think Rock! I’m constantly discovering new things that I love but also rediscovering things that I have always loved.
